Chemmeen Undaputtu / Prawns stuffed rice balls

Chemmeen Undaputtu, another malabar delicacy, its healthy and simple recipe for you all to try



Ingredients
  • Rice Powder 2 cup
  • Salt
  • Water 2 cup
  • Coconut 1/4 cup, grated
For Prawn Masala
  • Prawns 1/2 kg
  • Onion 2 big size, chopped
  • Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp
  • Green chilli 2 nos, chopped
  • Curry Leaves
  • Red Chilli Powder 1 tsp
  • Kashmiri Chilli Powder 1 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder 1/4 tsp
  • Garam Masala 1/2 tsp
  • Oil
Method

Clean and devein prawns, cook (in a medium low flame with little water) the prawns with little turmeric powder and salt. 

Heat oil in a pan saute chopped onion till it becomes soft and light brown. Add ginger garlic paste, curry leaves and green chilli and saute for 1 minute. Add salt and mix well. Now add red chilli powder, kashmiri chilli powder, turmeric powder and garam masala. Fry well on low flame. Add half cooked prawns and mix well until all the masala coat well. Add 2 tsp of water cover and cook for 2 minutes. Open and stir well. Put off flame and keep aside. 

Boil 2 cups of water along with salt. stir in the rice flour over lo flame. stir well and make a stiff paste. Remove from flame and knead to form a soft dough. Now make into small lemon size balls. Now flatten it with hand and fill 1 tbsp of prawns masala. Pull the edges close and re roll into a small ball. Roll this ball in grated coconut. Steam the balls for 20 to 30 minutes or until it done. Serve with a cup of tea or coffee during breakfast or evening snack.
