Rasam is South Indain delicacy, mango rasam, its light on the stomach, easy to make and flavourful. Its a popular dish in Mangalore region, they prepare this during mango season. So here is recipe for you all to try.
Ingredients
- Raw Mangoes 2 nos
- Tomato 1 big
- Toor Dal 1/4 cup
- Curry Leaves 2 sprigs
- Black Peppercorns 1 tbsp
- Coriander Seeds 1 tbsp
- Cumin Seeds 1 tbsp
- Dry Red Chilli 1
- Ginger 1 medium size piece, chopped
- Garlic 5 cloves, chopped
- Turmeric Powder 1 tsp
- Mustard Seeds 2 tsp
- Oil
- Salt
Method
First will make rasam powder, roast black pepper, coriander seeds and cumin seeds. Grind them together. So rasam powder is ready, keep this aside.
Boil raw mangoes in water. When the mango is cooked, squeeze out the pulp and keep it aside.
Boil and smash the toor dal and keep it aside.
Boil tomatoes with ginger, garlic and rasam powder, once its half cooked add squeezed raw mango pulp and boil for few seconds. Now add boiled dal and combine well. Add salt also. Mix well and boil for 2 minutes.
Now heat a small pan with oil and splutter mustard seeds, add dry red chilli, curry leaves and turmeric powder and then pour it into the tomato mixture. Check salt if need add accordingly. Serve warm with Rice.
NB: If the raw mango is not that sour please add 1 tbsp tamarind pulp. If you want can make this little watery, i like thick consistency so made like this. Enjoy cooking..
