Chicken Pola / Chicken Cake / Irani Pola

Yum
Pola is a traditional Malabar dish, which is similar to cake, but made without an oven. It can be sweet or savoury. You can make a wide variety of Pola using eggs, bread, banana, apples, chicken, fish, meat etc; One of my muslim friend given the recipe and tried and came out well. Me and husband liked this dish very much so thought of sharing with you all. So here is simple recipe for you all to try.

Ingredients
  • Egg 3 nos
  • All Purpose Flour 1/2 cup
  • Wheat Flour 1/2 cup
  • Milk 1 cup
  • Oil 1 cup
  • Salt

Put above ingredients in a blender or mixer and make a batter and keep it aside.

For the Masala
  • Chicken Breast / Boneless chicken 250gm
  • Onion 2 medium size chopped
  • Tomato 1 small one
  • Green Chili 2 or 3 nos, chopped
  • Ginger 1 medium piece, chopped
  • Red Chilli Powder 1/2 tsp
  • Pepper Powder 1 tsp
  • Green Capsicum half piece chopped
  • Red Capsicum half piece chopped
  • Spring Onion few chopped
  • Oil

Method

Cook chicken with little salt and 1/2 tsp of black pepper powder. Cut into small pieces and keep it aside.

Heat a pan on medium flame with oil. Put chopped ginger and saute well, once its become light brown add chopped onion and saute for few minutes or until it becomes soft. Add chopped green chili and saute for 1 minute. Add red chili powder and black pepper powder and mix well. Now add chopped tomatoes and saute well. Add salt and combine well close the lid and cook until the tomatoes are soft. Now add cooked chicken pieces and half of the chopped green and red capsicum and saute well. Sprinkle half of the spring onion and mix well. Switch off the flame and keep it aside.

Now put on stove and keep one sauce pan or any other round shape pan. apply little butter or oil and grease the pot. Keep the flame on medium flame. Once pot is hot pour some batter and wait for 1 minute then sprinkle some chicken masala and cover and cook for 2 to 3 minutes. Add some more batter and wait for 1 minute then add chicken masala and cover and cook for 2 to 3 minutes. Like this you can do for 4 to 5 layeres or until the batter and chicken masala gets over. In the layer or on top add remaining chopped capsicums and chopped spring onion cover and bake for 20 minutes on low flame or until it get cooked.

NB: In the masala if you want can add one chopped carrot also with chicken. We can also add scrambled egg with chicken , I just omitted egg because already we are using 3 eggs for batter so if you want some more richness in masala then add 2 scrambled egg with the chicken. Normally red chili  powder won't use in this recipe, but i added for the spice. Here I used all purpose flour and wheat flour, normaly they use only all purpose flour for this recipe. If you want can add chopped parsley or coriander leaves in this recipe. Enjoy cooking..

  1. This business can be very profitable but for this you have to do a proper planning. For example, if you are going to sell eggs laid by chickens then you need to have chickens that have long egg-laying stage and can lay sooner. Frozen Chicken Wings
