Puttu is Keralas traditional breakfast and it is healthy as rice flour is steamed. Here I tried Kappa Puttu with chicken, its deferent from normal puttu as we use less rice flour and more kappa in this recipe and it stuffed with chicken. So its delicious, flavourful and variety puttu. You can make this for dinner or as an evening snack. Here is recipe for you all to try.
- Tapioca 1/2 kg
- Coconut 1 cup, grated
- Rice flour 1 1/2 tbsp
- Salt
For chicken masala
- Chicken 250 gm, boneless
- Fennel Seeds 1/4 tsp
- Onion 1 medium size, chopped
- Green chilli 3 nos, slited
- Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp
- Turmeric Powder 1/4 tsp
- Red Chilli Powder 1/2 tsp
- Coriander Powder 1 tsp
- Garam Masala 1/4 tsp
- Pepper Powder 1/4 tsp
- Curry Leaves
- Salt
- Oil
Method
Clean and cut tapioca into medium size cubes. Take a medium size sauce pan put water and add tapioca cubes and boil for 3 minutes, drain that water and keep it aside to cool down. Once it cool down just crush in the mixer. Now mix rice flour and salt mix well with drizzle of water. Keep it aside.
Boil chicken breast with little water and salt, once it cooked drain water and keep it aside. Heat a pan and put oil, add fennel seeds then chopped onion and saute for 2 minutes. Then add ginger garlic paste and green chilli saute till raw smell goes and onion become soft. Now add all spice powders and saute for 1 minute. Add shredded chicken pieces and salt mix well. Keep it in low flame cover and cook for 2 minutes. Check salt if need add accordingly. Add curry leaves now and mix well.
Now in a puttu maker put grated coconut then kappa then chicken masala again kappa then grated coconut. Then steam for 10 to 12 minutes. Kappa with chicken puttu is ready. Serve warm.
NB: If you want can make plain kappa puttu and have it with fish curry or chicken curry. Here instead of making curry i stuffed chicken. Enjoy cooking..
