Avial is a popular dish in Kerala. This is not a traditional avail, I used only potato and beans in this recipe and I didn't add curd alos. But traditionaly it made with mixed vegetables, curd, cumin seeds and coconut.  Avial is my favourite dish, here is simple and deferent avial recipe for you all to try.

  • Potato 3 nos, medium size, cut into a inch size
  • Beans 20 nos , cut into a inch size
  • Turmeric Powder 1 tsp
  • Tamarind paste 1 tsp
  • Salt
  • Coconut Oil
  • Curry Leaves 2 sprigs
To grind
  • Coconut 1 cup, grated
  • Turmeric Powder 1/2 tsp
  • Green Chilli 3 / 4 nos
  • Curry Leaves 1 sprig
  • Cumin Seeds 1 tsp

Take beans, potato, turmeric powder and salt in a kadai. Add 1/2 cup of water and cook on medium low flame. It will take around 20 to 15 minutes.

Mean time take grated coconut, cumin seeds, green chilli, curry leaves and turmeric powder in a blender and make it into a coarse paste by adding some water.

Once the beans and potatoes are cooked, add this ground coconut paste into it and mix well. Add tamarind paste and cook for 5 to 6 minutes. Check salt add if needed. Put off flame and pour some coconut oil and sprinkle curry leaves and combine well. Serve with warm rice.

NB: If you like can temper mustard seeds and pour over this avail. I didn't put curd in this recipe, if you want to add curd can add 1 tbsp of curd in the end. Enjoy cooking.
