Fish And Cabbage Curry

Bengali style fish with cabbage curry. The flavour of cabbage and curd with fish was an excellent combination. Its easy to make and I liked this combination so here is recipe for you all to try.



Ingredients
  • Fish 500gm, 
  • Cabbage 2 cup, shredded
  • Onion 1 medium size, chopped
  • Turmeric Powder 1/2 + 1/4 tsp
  • Chilli Powder 1 tsp 1/2 tsp
  • Ginger - Garlic Paste 1 tbsp
  • Green Chilli 2 nos, slited
  • Mustard Seeds 1 tsp
  • Fenugreek Seeds 1/4 tsp
  • Cumin Seeds 1/2 tsp
  • Fennel Seeds 1/2 tsp
  • Bay Leaf 1 
  • Curd 4 tbsp, thick one
  • Asafoetida a pinch
  • Curry Leaves 1 sprig
  • Salt
  • Oil
Method

Clean and marinate fish pieces with 1/2 tsp of chilli powder, 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder and little salt and keep it aside for 25 minutes. Heat oil in a pan or tawa and fry the fish till its fully cooked. And keep it aside.

Heat oil in a sauce pan or kadai and temper mustard seeds, curry leaves, bay leaf, fennel seeds, and cumin seeds. Saute for few seconds then add chopped onions and saute well. Now add ginger garlic paste and saute until the raw smell goes. Add shredded cabbage and green chilli saute for few seconds. Now add 1 tsp of red chilli powder, 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder, a pinch of asafoetida and salt, saute for few seconds. Now add 1 1/2 cup of water and cover and cook for 10 minutes on medium low flame.

Open and add thick curd and mix well. Now add fried fish pieces and mix well. Cover and cook on low flame for another 10 to 12 minutes. Till the gravy thickens and oil separates. Serve this with hot rice. 

NB: Its a Bengali dish, they use bengali fishes for this recipe, you can use your choice of fishes for this gravy. Enjoy cooking..
