Mutton Stew Kerala Style.

Kerala style mutton stew, its very delicious, chunks of mutton simmered in coconut milk along with curry leaves and whole spices. Here is recipe for you all to try.





Ingredients
  • Mutton 1/2 kg
  • Onion 2 big, sliced
  • Green chilli 4 , slitted
  • Garlic 4 cloves, chopped
  • Ginger 1 medium piece, chopped
  • Potato 1 medium size, cut into cubes
  • Tomato 1 medium size, chopped
  • Cardamom 3 nos
  • Cinnamon 1 piece
  • Cloves 4 nos
  • Star Anees 1
  • Turmeric Powder a pinch
  • Coriander Powder 1tsp
  • Garam Masala 1/2 tsp
  • Pepper Powder 1/2 tsp
  • Thick Coconut Milk 2 cup
  • Thin Coconut Milk/Water 1 cup
  • Salt
  • Oil
  • Curry Leaves 2 sprigs
  • Coriander Leaves few, chopped
  • Mint Leaves few, chopped

Method

Clean and keep mutton pieces. Pressure cook the mutton pieces with turmeric powder, 1/2 tsp coriander powder, 1/4 tsp pepper powder, salt and cubed potato with water or thin coconut milk. Heat oil in a sauce pan, add cloves, cardamom, cinnamon stick and star anise, saute for 1 minute. Add chopped ginger, garlic and green chilli saute for 1 minute. Add sliced onion and salt and stir until it becomes soft. Add 1/2 tsp coriander powder, garam masala powder and pepper powder saute for 1 minute. Add chopped tomatoes and stir until it becomes soft. Now add the cooked mutton and let it boil. Add one sprig curry leaves, few chopped coriander and mint leaves and stir well. Add thick coconut milk and boil in low flame. Check salt and pepper if require add accordingly. Put off the flame garnish with curry leaves and few chopped coriander leaves. Serve warm with Ghee rice, Mint Coriander rice, Bread, Roti or Nan.


NB: If you are in a hurry, can cook everything together in pressure cooker it self, saute whole spices, onion, tomato and all in cooker itself, add masala powderes then add mutton pieces along with thin coconut milk or water and cook. Once its ready open and add thick coconut milk and leaves simmer in low flame for 3 minutes. Enjoy cooking..
