  • Salt.
For the Paste
  • Mustard 3 tbsp
  • Green chilli 1 chopped
  • Salt
Method

Clean and cut fish and rub the fish with little salt, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder and keep aside for 15 minutes. Heat oil in a pan and shallow fry the fish pieces, fry all fish pieces and keep aside.

Heat mustard oil in another pan and add the nigella seeds, pour in the mustard paste, add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and little water. Add the slitted green chillies and bring it to boil. Now add the fried fish and keep in low flame cover and cook for 4 minutes. Open and check salt. Now its ready to serve. Serve warm with rice or roti.

NB: Nigella seeds, its in triangular shape and black in colour,if you don't have nigella seeds then use cumin seeds or sesame seeds. Bengalis use mostly fresh sweet water fish, we can substitute with any white fish. If you want thick gravy then add some onion paste, that also tastes good. Enjoy cooking..
