Nethali / Anchovies is one of my favorites in fish. Here is very delicious and spicy Nethali peera pathichathu recipe for you all to try.

Ingredients
  • Nethali /Anchovies 250 gm medium size
  • Grated coconut 1/2 cup
  • Shallots / small Onions 8 – 10 sliced
  • Green chilies 6 – 7 sliced
  • Ginger 1 inch finely chopped
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • Chilly powder 1 tsp
  • Fenugreek powder 1/4 tsp
  • Tamerind pulp 1 tbsp / Kudam puli  2-3
  • Curry leaves 1-2 sprigs
  • Salt
  • Coconut Oil 2 – 3 tsp
Method

Clean and wash the fish, drain water and keep it aside.

Combine grated coconut, turmeric powder, chilly powder, sliced small onions, green chilies, ginger, curry leaves and salt in a claypot/manchatti. Crush everything together with your fingers or crush in the blender and add the tamarind pulp or kudampuli and fish pieces. Add around 1 cup water, cover with the lid and cook until all the water is used up, at medium heat and the fish is cooked. It will take 10 to 15 minutes. Be careful while stirring it, this fish will break down easily. Check salt add if needed. Sprinkle menu greek powder and combine well. Finally add 2 – 3 tsp coconut oil and few more curry leaves . Mix well and switch off. This goes well with rice or with dosa.
