Moong Dal With Bottle Gourd and Bitter Gourd / Titor Dal

Titor Dal, its a common Bengali recipe. Its nutritious dal made with bottle gourd and bitter gourd. Very tasty and easy to prepare recipe for you all to try.



Ingredients
  • Moong Dal 1 cup, (cleaned and washed)
  • Bitter Gourd 2 medium size, ( Cleaned and cut into thin rings)
  • Bottle Gourd 500gm (peeled and cubed)
  • Turmeric Powder 1/4 tsp
  • Ginger Paste 1 tsp
  • Mustard Seeds 1/2 tsp
  • Fenugreek Seeds 1/4 tsp
  • Bay Leaves 2 
  • Salt
  • Sugar a pinch
  • Oil
Method

In a pan add dal, turmeric,salt and 4 cups of water . Boil it until half done. Add cubed bottle gourd and cook it becomes tender. If needed add warm water. Remove from flame and keep aside. 

Heat oil in a pan add bitter gourd and fry until light brown. Transfer the fried bitter gourd into a bowl. Add mustard seeds in the oil, when it splutters add bay leaves and fenugreek seeds, stir fry for 30 seconds. Add ginger pate, saute for 30 seconds. Add the dal and fried bitter gourd, stir. Add sugar, cook for 5 minutes, stir occasionally . Check salt if need add accordingly. Its ready to serve now. Serve warm with Rice or Roti.

NB: The thickness of the gravy adjust according to your taste. I made little thicker gravy. Enjoy cooking.
