Ethapazham Pidi( Rice dumplings with Plantain)

Yum
Normaly we eat Pidi(Rice Dumplings) with chicken curry or Kozhipidi. Here is a sweet version of Pidi that is Ethapazham Pidi, its good as desert or for an evening snack. Its healthy and heavy, kids will like this. Here is simple and easy recipe for you all to try.

Ingredients
  • Plantain(Ripe Once) 2, sliced
  • Coconut Milk 3/4 cup, thick one.
  • Sugar 3/4 cup
  • Cardamom Powder 1/2 tsp

For Pidi
  • Rice powder 1 cup
  • Water 1 cup
  • Coconut grated 1/2 cup
  • Salt to tast
Method

Boil water with salt, once bubbles start coming add grated coconut. When it boils well, add the rice powder little by little, mix well and switch off the flame. Knead it well to make a smooth dough (like pathiri or idiyappam)

Apply little oil or water to the palms. Make small balls and press in the centre to make a shape as shown in the picture, like our mini vadai but without whole. Make all pidis and keep it aside.

Take a medium size sauce pan, add 2 to 3 cups of water and keep it for boiling. Once it start boiling, add pidis cover and cook on medium flame for 5 minutes. Stir in between. Once the pidis half cooked add sliced plantain and cook until the pidi is cooked and soft. Now add sugar and mix well. Once the sugar melts add cardamom powder and combine well. Now keep it in the low flame and add 1/2 cup coconut milk and milx well. Just check the consistency if its thick like our payasam then remove from fire and keep it aside. If its not thick enough add some more coconut milk and mix well. Serve little warm. Use the same day else the pidi will become hard because of sugar.

NB: If you want can add ghee roasted cashew nuts and raisins while serving. Enjoy cooking..
