Stuffed Kozhukkattai

Steamed rice powder balls stuffed with spicy chutney.

  • 1 cup Rice flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp Oil

For the stuffing
  • Onion 1 medium chopped
  • Ginger 1tsp chopped
  • Garlic 1tsp chopped
  • Green chilli 3 nos chopped
  • Shallots 3 nos chopped
  • Tomatto 1 small chopped
  • Coconut 1/2 cup grated
  • Curry leaves few 
  • Red chilli powder 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
  • Fennel seeds 1/4 tsp
  • Salt 


Heat a pan put oil and add fennel seeds, once the fragrance start coming add chopped onions, ginger, garlic and green chilli and saute well. 

Meantime crush coconut with shallots, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt.

Add the coconut mixture into the pan and mix well and add tomatoes into it saute well, keep the flame low and cover and cook for 3 minutes, then open and add curry leaves and mix well, check salt if required add then put off flame.

In a bowl take rice flour, salt and oil mix well. Boil water and mix with rice flour, till the flour thickens. Make small balls out of the mixture. Flatten the balls a bit and fill the coconut mixture and roll it again as ball shape and then steam the kozhukatai for 8 -10 minutes.

Once its ready temper mustard seeds, curry leaves, red chilli in ghee and just put on top of the kozhukkattais. Serve hot.
