Goan Prawns Curry

Goan Prawns curry is classic fish curry made with prawns and coconut. 

This recipe made easily at home. Generally spices like red chillies, coconut, coconut milk and some more spices which are easily available in your kitchen.

  • Prawns - 500 Gms, cleaned
  • Finely chopped Onion - 1 Nos
  • Sliced green chillies - 2 NosGarlic cloves- 2 Nos
  • Tamarind - 5 Gms
  • Chopped Capsicum - ½ cup
  • Thick coconut milk - 1 cup
  • Grated coconut - ½ cup
  • Turmeric powder - ½ Teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - ½ Tablespoon
  • Cumin seeds - ½ Teaspoon
  • Pepper corns - 10-12 Nos
  • Coconut oil - 2 Tablespoon
  • Water as required
  • Salt to taste


Add the tamarind into 2 tablespoon of water and set aside. Heat oil in an earthen pot, add chopped onion and saut√© till it becomes transparent. Then add the cleaned prawns and fry for 5-6 minutes on medium flame. Grind together grated coconut,garlic,turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin seeds and pepper corns and make a fine paste. 

Add the grated mixture into the pot and stir well. Add water, tamarind juice, sliced green chillies, chopped capsicum, coconut milk and cook till the prawns are cooked well over medium flame. When the gravy is thick, remove the curry from flame. 

Serve hot with rice.
