Mutton Curry - Durban (SA) style
Durban Curries, which are usually hotter, colored yellow and red like our other indian gravies. Curry was introduced to the colony of Natal over 150 years ago by indentured labors who came from India, to work in the sugar cane fields. The word 'Curry' comes from South India which means sauce. The array of tasty durban curries encompass many glorious dishes made from chicken, prawns, fish, beef and vegetables, but the most popular choice is lamb or mutton. Here is recipe for you all to try.

Palm Heart Salad With Passionfruit dressing
Palm heart salad, we ate our first palm hearts in the famous 'Millionaires Salad' during our Mauritius visit. Palm heart is a popular delicacy in Mauritian cuisine. They often used as an ingredient in mixed salads and soups. Its a rich source of fibre, protein and minerals and aids digestion. The three most common types of palm hearts you will find in shops are the white palm heart, the royal palm heart and the palm heart of a coconut tree. Generally they use white palm heart, trees are cut open after seven 7 years to extract a small 30 cm -sized heart, which feeds only 3 people in a salad. In Mauritius they call its 'Salade Palmiste'. They use fresh palm hearts, sliced it and soaked in milk and water. Here I used canned palm heart, we dont get fresh once here. You all must be thinking how it tastes, its a bit bland-crunchy but with no particular flavour so we need to add some extra flavoures to it while preparing. Here is my version of palm heart salad with passion fruit dressing.

Papaya Pradhaman / Papaya Payasam
For this Onam and Bakrid season I am presenting a deferent payasam with papaya. I know during this festive season we can't end the feast without any sweet.
Papaya fruit is available through out the year mostly everywhere. I know papaya fruit is not everyone favourite, it has the slight bitter after taste that put most people off. The great voyager Christopher Columbus used to refer to this fruit as "fruit of angels". Raw papaya has good source of fibre, which helps to lower high cholesterol and blood sugar level. The enzyme papain present in papaya is known to aid digestion by breaking down proteins. A glass of papaya juice is recommended as a home remedy for digestion. It has anti- oxidants that protect the body from heart diseases and cancer. Papaya is a great source of Vitamin A, B, C, and K is known as an excellent immunity booster. Its a beauty experts too, often suggest using slices of papaya as a natural skin cleanser as the active enzymes work wonders to remove impurities. Papaya is low in calories and it helps for weight loss. So try to include this fruit in your diet.
Here is payasam recipe for you all to try. Wishing you all Happy Onam and Happy Bakrid .
