Chicken Mezhukupurati

Chicken Mezhukupurati, its delicious and simple way to make chicken. Normaly we, keralites make mezhukupurati with vegetables. Here I tried with chicken and it came out well. So here is recipe for you all to try.


  • Chicken 500gm, boneless, cut into small pieces
For the marination

  • Ginger Garlic Paste 1 tbsp
  • Kashmiri Chilli Powder 1/2 tsp
  • Red Chilli Powder 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder 1/2 tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder 1 tsp
  • Curry Leaves few, chopped 
  • Coconut Oil 1 to 2 tsp
  • Salt
To Splutter

  • Coconut Oil 2 tsp
  • Mustard Seeds 1/2 tsp
  • Dry Red Chilli 2 nos
  • Curry Leaves 2 sprigs
  • Shallots / Small Onion 10 to 15, sliced
  • Green Chili 2 nos
  • Turmeric Powder 1/2 tsp
  • Kashmiri Chilli Powder 1/2 tsp
  • Crushed Chili Flakes 1/2 to 1 tsp
  • Salt 

Wash and clean chicken pieces and drain water well. Marinate the chicken pieces using the ingredients under ' for the marination' and keep it aside for 30 to 40 minutes.

Take a pan and add marinated chicken pieces cover and cook on medium flame, stir in between. Cook for about 20 to 25 minutes or until the water evaporated and the chicken pieces are done. 

Heat coconut oil in a pan on  medium flame. Splutter mustard seeds and fry red chili and curry leaves. Now add shallots, green chili and saute until they become light brown color. Add turmeric powder, kashmiri chili powder and chili flakes. Stir for a minute. Add cooked chicken pieces and mix well. Cook for 6 to 7 minutes on medium high flame, stirring inbetween until the chicken pieces get slightly roasted. Switch off flame and serve with warm rice. 

NB: Chilli powder and chili flakes  you can adjust according to your spice level. Enjoy cooking..
