I have already posted chicken puttu, Oats Egg Puttu, Brocoli Carrot Puttu, Kappa Puttu, Chemba Puttu etc..
Ingredients
To marinate fish
- Iyla Fish / Mackrel 2 medium size
- Turmeric Powder 1/4 tsp
- Chilli Powder 1/2 tsp
- Salt
For the Masala
- Onion 1 medium size, chopped
- Garlic 4 nos, chopped
- Ginger 1 medium size piece, chopped
- Green Chili 3 nos, chopped
- Tomato 1 small size, chopped
- Turmeric Powder 1/4 tsp
- Chilli Powder 1/2 tsp
- Kashmiri Chilli Powder 1/2 tsp
- Pepper Powder 1/4 tsp
- Coconut 1/2 cup, grated
- Curry Leaves
- Coconut Oil
- Salt
- Puttu Podi 1 cup
Here I used Mackrel fish, you can use pearl fish or pomfret. Clean fish and rinse well with water, drain water well. Marinate with turmeric powder, chili powder and salt. Keep it for 15 minutes. Then shallow fry the fish, once its cool down remove the bones and keep it aside. In the same pan add some more oil and add chopped onion, garlic, ginger, green chili and curry leaves. Saute well for 3 to 4 minutes on low flame. Now add chili powder, kashmiri chili powder, turmeric powder and pepper powder saute well until the raw smell goes. Add chopped tomatoes and salt and saute until tomato cooked. Now add the de-boned fish into the masala. Mix well and add grated coconut into this and combine everything well. Check the salt and add if needed.
Take putu podi and mix with water and keep it for 15 minutes. Now take puttu kuti or chiratta putu maker, I used steel chirata puttu shell. Fill fish masala then putu podi again some fish masala. So that top and bottom layer you get masala. Now steam the fish masala puttu for 8 to 10 minutes. Serve warm, no need any curry for this. Enjoy..
NB: The above quantity you can serve for 2 people. You can use some left over fried fish for this recipe. Its not compulsory that to use only fried fish, you can just cook the fish with salt , turmeric and pepper powder, then cool down and remove bones and use the flesh into the masala. Enjoy Cooking..
