Pumpkin Payasam (Mathanga Payasam)

This is a mouth watering sweet dish and healthy one too. So here is a special payasam recipe for you all to serve after the feast.

  • Ripe Yellow Pumpkin 100gm
  • Coconut Milk 200ml
  • Jaggery 50 gm
  • Cardamom powder 1 tsp
  • Cloves 2
  • Cashew nuts 2 tbsp
  • Coconut pieces 2 tbsp
  • Raisins 1 tbsp
  • Ghee 3 tbsp
  • Water 1 cup


Cut Pumpkin into small pieces and put in the pressure cooker with little water, cloves and cook for one whistle. Open and dry the water and mash and fry in the ghee till it comes out from the pan. Add melted jaggery into it and boil for 2 minutes, simmer the flame and add coconut milk simmer it for sometime. Add cardamon powder and stir well. switch off flame and keep it aside. In a pan add ghee and fry coconut pieces, cashew nuts and raisins and add to this in the payasam, mix well.
