Kayapakka(bitter guard) pachadi is a traditional Kerala dish made using coconut and yogurt.
- Kayapakka (bitter guard) 1/2 cup cut in small pieces
- Mustard seeds 1 tbs
- Curry leaves
- Salt as required
- Cumin Seeds 1/4 tsp
- Curd 3/4 cup
- Ginger 1 small piece chopped
- Green chilli 3
- Coconut 1/4 cup
- Dry red chilli 2
Method
Put water in a small sauce pan add bitter guard pieces, green chilli, ginger pieces and salt and cook till bitter guard get soft. Grind the coconut, curd, 1/4 tsp mustard seeds, cumin seeds together. Add the ground coconut into the bitter guard and mix well in low flame for 2 minutes. Splutter mustard seeds followed by whole red chilli, curry leaves and coconut. Add this seasoning to the pachadi and mix well. Serve with rice.
