Keerai Masiyal

Its a semi gravy dish, can be made in different ways, with coconut and without coconut also. Here is healthy and simple recipe.

  • Keerai / Cheera 1 bunch
  • Green Chilli 2 sliced
  • Coconut 1/4 cup
  • Cumin Seed 1/2 tsp
  • Salt
  • Turmeric Powder 1/4 tsp
  • Coconut oil 1/4 tsp
  • Mustard seeds 1/4 tsp
  • Asfoetida a pinch
  • Urad dal 1/4 tsp


Chop the keerai very finely and wash it thoroughly in water for 3-4 times.

In a kadai or pan put the chopped spinach , green chilli, turmeric powder and salt.

Add 1/4 cup of water and cook in medium flame for 4-5 minutes.

With the help of wooden spoon mash the keerai in between.

Grind the coconut along with cumin seeds into smooth paste, add to the cooked keerai. Mix well and transfer to a serving bowl. 

Heat coconut oil and temper with mustard seeds, urad dal and asafoetida. 

Sprinkle on top of the keerai masiyal and serve warm with plain rice.
