Fish Moilee

Yum
Fish Moilee is a famous fish curry from Kerala(South India). Fish cooked in mildly spiced coconut gravy.



Ingredients
  • Fish (medium size pieces) 500gm
  • Cloves 3 nos
  • Cinnamon 1 piece
  • Bay Leaf 1 no
  • Onion (big) 2 sliced
  • Ginger chopped 1 piece
  • Garlic chopped 3 cloves
  • Fennel seeds 1/4 tsp
  • Green Chillies 4 slitted
  • Curry Leaves 2 sprigs
  • Turmeric Powder a pinch
  • Corianger Powder 1/4 tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder 1/4 tsp
  • Black Pepper Powder 1/4 tsp
  • Tomato (small) 1 sliced
  • Thin Coconut milk 1/2 cup
  • Thick Coconut milk 1/2 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Coconut Oil

For Marination

Turmeric Powder 1/4 tsp
Black Pepper Powder 1 tsp
Lemon Juice 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste

Method

In a bowl combine together all the ingredients listed under ' for marination'. Rub this onto the cleaned fish pieces . Keep aside for 15 minutes.

Shallow fry them until 3/4th done, turning once in-between. Drain onto a kitchen towel.

Crush fennel seeds with ginger and garlic.

In the same pan add little more oil then add cloves, cinnamon and bay leaf. Saute for few seconds.

Add onion saute for a minute then add crushed fennel seeds with ginger garlic mix, green chillies and curry leaves. Saute until onion turns soft.

Add turmeric powder, coriander powder and garam masala and saute for few seconds.

Now add sliced tomatoes and thin coconut milk. Bring this to a boil. Add salt to taste.

Add the fried fish pieces and mix gently. Cover and cook for few minutes.

Now add the thick coconut milk, black pepper powder and mix gently. Switch off the stove, add more curry leaves.

Serve with Rice / Appam.
