Tuna Thoran

Thoran is a dry dish made of finely chopped vegetables mixed together with coconut. Here is easy and deferent Tuna Thoren recipe for u all to try.

  • Can Tuna in water / sunflower oil 1 or fresh fish( king fish, fresh tuna fish, Mackerel or anchovies)
  • Onion 1 medium size, chopped
  • Green Chilli 3 nos, slited
  • Ginger 1 small piece, chopped
  • Garlic 4 cloves, chopped
  • Shallots 4 nos, chopped
  • Coconut 4 tbsp, grated
  • Red Chilli Powder 1 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder 1/4 tsp
  • Garam Masala 1/2 tsp
  • Curry Leaves 2 sprig
  • Mustard Seeds 1/2 tsp
  • Oil
  • Salt


Drain out all the oil / water from the canned tuna or if you are using fresh fish, cook the fish with turmeric powder, salt and water. Cool and shred fish meat finely, remove the bones and see it aside. 

In a pan heat oil and splutter mustard seeds and curry leaves. Add chopped onion and saute for 2 minutes. Now add chopped ginger and garlic and saute for 1 minute. Now add slitted green chilli and saute well till the onion become translucent. 

Mean time crush shallots and coconut together and keep it aside. 

Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder and garam masala powder  and mix well. Add salt and mix well. Add the tuna or shredded fresh fish and saute for a while, when it almost ready add the grated coconut mix and stir well. Remove from the fire.  Serve warm with steamed rice or roti.
