Plum chutney (Indian Style)

Plum, its a summer stone fruit, here is wonderful chutney made out of plum, it has light ginger and pepper taste, good for this summer. Here is recipe for you all to try.

  • Plums, 5 nos, Ripe
  • Water 1/2 cup
  • Sugar 1/2 cup
  • Ginger 1 tsp, finely chopped
  • Black Pepper 1/2 tsp, crushed
  • Vanila Extract 1/4 tsp
  • Salt


Wash and slice plums, discard the pit. Leave the skin. Take a pan and heat on medium flame with 1/2 cup water. Add sliced plums bring to boil.

When bubbles start coming add sugar, salt, chopped ginger, crushed black pepper and vanilla extract. Let it boil for 6 to 10 minutes, uncovered and stirring occasionally. The consistency will be like liquid jelly. once it attain the consistency remove from heat and cool to room temperature. You can have this  on its own or as a spread for a toast or serve this as a side dish at end of the meal. Serve with warm roti etc..

NB: You can omit ginger and back pepper and make this like jam, You can add crushed cloves or any other spice for flavour. Enjoy cooking..
