Mussel Pepper Fry, delicious and hot dish, here is recipe for you all to try.
- Mussels 1/2 kg
- Onion 1 medium size, chopped
- Shallots / Small Onion 1/4 cup, sliced
- Green Chilli 5 nos , slited
- Ginger 1 small piece, chopped
- Garlic 5 cloves , chopped
- Tomato 1 medium size, finely chopped
- Turmeric Powder 1/2 tsp
- Red Chilli Powder 1 tsp
- Black Pepper Powder 3 tsp or upto your tolerance, Crushed
- Garam Masala Powder 1/4 tsp
- Curry Leaves 2 sprigs
- Coriander leaves 1 tbsp, chopped
- Coconut Oil / Sunflower Oil 3 tbsp
Wash and clean the Mussels shells well and put them in a pot with little water and boil till the shell open. Drain all the water and take out the mussels from the shell, clean the hairy thing and remove the black part in the bottom of the mussels.
In a nonstick pan or earthen pot heat coconut oil and add curry leaves , then add chopped onion and sliced shallots saute for 2 minutes. Now add chopped ginger and garlic saute for few seconds, then add slitted green chillies. Saute well till the onions become light brown in colour. Now add the chopped tomatoes and cook till turns soft.
Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder and garam masala and saute for few seconds. Add the half cooked and cleaned mussels, add 1/4 cup of water and mix well. Add salt also. cover and cook it on medium flame for 5 to 10 minutes. Open lid and stir in between. Open and check the mussels are cooked and covered with masalas. Now add black pepper powder, our main spice in this dish. combine well and cook uncovered in a low flame for 3 to 5 minutes. Check salt if need add accordingly. Now drizzle some coconut oil and mix well. Switch off flame, cover lid and keep for few minutes to just to set the flavour. Open and add chopped coriander leaves. Serve with warm rice, rot or appam.
NB: Please do not use the mussels shells have opened before boiling. After boiling some shells won't open it means those once are not good, so please don't use that also. Its a hot dish, so please adjust chilli and pepper powder according to your tolerance. Here i didn't get fresh Mussels so used frozen once. Enjoy cooking.
