Oats Egg masala Puttu

Oats Egg masala Puttu , a twist from the normal version of Puttu. It's a healthy alternative to rice Puttu and rava Puttu. I'm sure if you are not a fan of oats, you will definitely like this oats egg masala Puttu, which can be served for breakfast, dinner or snacks. Oats is an excellent source of fiber and can help reduce cholestrol. 

Ingredients for Oats Puttu 
  • Oats 2 cups
  • Rice flour 2 tbsp
  • Salt 2 to 3 pinches
  • Grated coconut 4 to 5 tablespoons 
  • Water 

Method for making Puttu 

Take a bowl and combine oats and rice flour, add salt into it and mix with your hand. Wet the mixture by sprinkling water slowly. It should not get soggy. The mixture should feel moist in your hand. Keep aside for 5 minutes. 

Take the Chiratta Puttu maker or the Puttu kutti ( the cylinder ), put a spoon of grated coconut, add 2 to 3 scoops of oats mix, put the next layer with egg masala with a half slice of egg, put another layer of oats mix and another layer of grated coconut. Continue till the oats and egg masala mix gets over. Steam it for 5 to 8 minutes and your healthy oats egg masala Puttu is ready. Serve it hot.

Ingredients for Egg Masala
  • Eggs 3 nos boiled and sliced half.
  • Onion 2 sliced
  • Green Chillies 3-4 chopped
  • Ginger and Garlic 1 tbsp chopped 
  • Tomato 1 chopped
  • Coriander leaves few chopped
  • Curry leaves 1 sprig
  • Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
  • Red chilli powder 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder 2 tsp
  • Garam masala 1 tsp
  • Pepper powder 1 pinch
  • Salt
  • Oil

Method for egg masala

Heat oil in a pan put chopped ginger, garlic and curry leaves sauté for 2 seconds. Add sliced onions and chopped green chillies. Cook for a minute.

Add chopped tomatoes and mash the pulp. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and garam masala. Sauté a while add pepper powder and salt and mix well. Add half sliced boiled egg and combine the mixture well and keep in the low flame cover and cook for 2 minutes. Open and add coriander leaves mix well and remove from the heat. Egg masala is ready. 

Note : I have used Quakeres quick cooking oats, you can use any other quick cooking oats. You can make plain oats Puttu and have it with banana or chick peas curry. Enjoy healthy cooking.
