Pomfret Fish Curry

Malabari style Pomfret fish curry. Here is recipe for you all to try. 

  • Black Pomfret (Avoli) 500gm, sliced
  • Shallots 5 nos, sliced
  • Green chilli 5 nos, slitted
  • Ginger 1 medium piece, chopped
  • Garlic 2 cloves, chopped
  • Tomato 1 , chopped
  • Tamerind 1 lemon size 
  • Turmeric Powder 1/2 tsp
  • Kashmiri chilli powder 1 tsp
  • Red chilli powder 1 1/2 tsp
  • Coconut 1/2 cup, grated
  • Curry Leaves 2 sprigs
  • Salt
  • Water

Cut and clean the fish well. Add salt, 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder and 1/2 tsp red chilli powder mix well and marinate this with fish slices and keep it for 20 minutes. Soak tamarind in little water and keep it. Meanwhile grind grated coconut with red chilli powder, kashmiri chilli powder , turmeric powder, tamarind water and salt, make a fine paste. Take an earthen wear or medium size sauce pan , add sliced shallots, green chilli, chopped ginger, chopped garlic and chopped tomato. Add marinated fish slices also. Now add grinded coconut paste and mix well. Keep it medium heat cover and cook for 2 minutes, slightly open the lid and cook till gravy thickens and now add 1 sprig curry leaves and mix well. Check salt, add if required. Serve warm with rice or roti.
