Green apple pickle, its delicious and tasty pickle goes well with warm rice and roti. It tastes similar to mango pickle. Here in SA we won't get raw mangoes all the time so tried this green apple pickle. There are deferent ways to make this pickle. I just tried with mustard seeds, red chili and garlic cloves. Here is recipe for you all to try.
- Green Apple 8 nos, medium sizes
- Mustard Powder 1 cup
- Fenugreek Seed powder / Methi Seeds Powder 1 tbsp
- Garlic Cloves 15 to 20 numbers
- Red Chili Powder 3/4 cup
- Kashmiri Powder 1/4 cup
- Asafotida Powder / Hing a pinch
- Sesame Oil 1 1/2 to 2 cups
Wash and wipe green apple with dry cloth. Now cut apple and remove seeds and cut into medium cubes. Take a dry cloth and put this apple pieces in it and dry them properly and keep it aside.
Grind mustard seeds to a fine powder. Just slit the garlic cloves and keep it.
Take a big size glass bowl or steel bowl and mix the mustard powder, red chili powder, kashmiri chili powder, asafotida and salt. Combine everything well.
Now add the mango pieces in it and mix well, use your hands to mix everything together instead of mixing with a ladle. Add methi seed powder / fenugreek seed powder and asafotida powder in the apple mixture and combine well. Add sesame oil and mix everything well.
Now take a sterilized glass jar and put the green apple pickle and add some more oil if you want and cover it with lid and keep it aside for 3 to 4 days. On the 3rd day you can see oil is floating over, otherwise you can add some more oil and keep it aside. On the 4th day open the bottle and use a dried wooden spoon or laddle mix everything well and its ready, you can serve with warm rise.
NB: Please adjust red chili powder according to your taste. Here I used small size green apples for this recipe. I didn't put more oil as here it won't get spoil fast, if you want to keep for long please add oil accordingly else keep it in the fridge. With above measurement you get 2 medium size bottle pickles. Enjoy cooking..
