Shallots Stuffed Mackerel

Yum
Shallots Stuffed Mackerel, its delicious and mild flavored mackerel fry with shallots. When we went to Kerala 2 months back for our annual vacation, got some fresh mackerel from the market, so thought of trying a new item with this. So tried this and everyone liked it with rice. Here in SA we don't get fresh Mackerel and Shallots😔. Here is recipe for you all to try. Im sure you all will like this dish. Enjoy!!

Ingredients

  • Mackerles 4 or 5 nos
  • Salt
  • Turmeric Powder 1/2 tsp
  • Red Chilli Powder a pinch
For the stuffing
  • Shallots 15 to 20
  • Green Chilli 3 or 4 nos
  • Garlic 2 cloves
  • Pepper Powder 1/4 tsp
  • Lemon Juice 1 tbsp
  • Salt
  • Oil for frying

Method

Clean and cut mackerel, its head and fins only. Put some lines with knife, rinse well with water. Drain water well and marinate mackerel with turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt, keep it aside for 20 to 30 minutes.

Mean while just crush shallots, garlic and green chilli in a blender, dont make it smooth paste. Now mix lemon juice and pepper powder in it, combine well with your hands and keep it aside for 15 minutes. Add salt and mix before stuffing in to the mackerel.

Now hold marinated mackerel in your hand and open up the mackerel as much as possible then fill the shallots mix and keep it aside. Do the procedure until the mackerel and filling gets over.

Heat a pan on medium flame with oil. Spread oil in the pan. Once oil is hot place the stuffed mackerel on the pan and fry for 8 to 10 minutes. Gently turn to the other side and fry that side also for 8 to 10 minutes. Please take care while frying not to burn keep it in the medium low flame and shallow fry. Put off the flame and serve warm with rice or chapathi.

NB: Please adjust green chilli and pepper powder according to your taste. Instead of green chilli you can add 'Kanthari Mulaku' ( Birds Eye Chilli ) Enjoy cooking.
