Cabbage Chutney

Cabbage chutney, its delicious and mild flavored chutney goes well with South Indian Breakfast items. Cabbage is rich in vitamin K. Most of the people hate cabbage because of odour. But if you add extra ingredients with it and cook, it doesnt give that odour. This chutney is like that and its healthy too. Normaly we cook cabbage stir fry or with some gravy etc. Here is easy cabbage chutney recipe for you all to try.



Ingredients 
  • Cabbage grated or chopped -1 cup
  • Onions -1/2 cup chopped
  • Ginger -1/2 inch piece
  • Green chilli -2 / 3
  • Tomato -1/2 cup
  • Curry leaves -few
  • Tamarind - a small lemon size or 1/4 tsp pulp
  • Grated coconut -1 tbsp
  • Oil -2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds -1/2
  • Urad dal -2 tbsp
  • Red chilli -1
  • Hing/asafoetida -a pinch
For seasoning 
  • Oil -1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds -1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves -few
Method

Chop all the vegetables and keep it ready.

Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add urad dal, red chillies and asafoetida powder. Saute until dal turns golden brown and remove it from pan.

In the same pan, add chopped onions , ginger, green chilli, few curry leaves and saute until onions turn transparent.

Then add cabbage and cook until the raw smell of the cabbage goes.

Add tomatoes and cook for a few more minutes.

Allow it to cool. Now grind the urad dal and red chilli first to a fine paste.

Then add the cooked cabbage mixture, tamarind paste, grated coconut and grind it well adding salt to taste.

Heat another tsp of oil, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add curry leaves and pour it over the cabbage chutney.

Chutney is ready now.. You can serve with dosa or idli..
