Prawns Kizhi, prawns cooked with onion and coconut based spicy sauce and wrapped in banana leaf and then roasted. Here is recipe for you all to try.
Ingredients
- Prawns 10 to 15nos
- Onion 1 big , chopped
- Tomato 1 medium, chopped
- Green Chilli 3 nos, chopped
- Garlic 4 nos, chopped
- Ginger 1 small piece, chopped
- Turmeric Powder 1/4 tsp
- Red Chilli Powder 3/4 to 1 tsp
- Small Onion 5 nos. sliced
- Coconut 1/2 cup grated
- Curry Leaves 2 sprigs
- Tamarind 1 lemon size
- Coconut Oil
Method
Remove prawns and peel devein them. Rinse with turmeric water for few times and keep it aside.
In a pan pour two tbsp of oil. Add chopped ginger and garlic and saute for few seconds, then add chopped onion, curry leaves and green chilli. Saute for 2 minutes. Then add chopped tomatoes. Saute till tomatoes become soft.
Mean time crush coconut with shallots and little turmeric powder and 1/4 tsp of red chilli powder and keep aside.
Once tomatoes become soft put turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt and saute for few seconds till the raw small goes. Now add prawns and stir fry. Add tamarind juice now, cover and cook for 2 to 5 minutes. Open and add crushed coconut mix, combine well. Check salt, if need add accordingly. When it thickens stir well and put off flame.
Take a banana leaf, heat gently on fire to prevent from tearing, Put this prawn masala into the leaf. Tie the leaf with plantain - fibre like a 'kizhi'. Keep a pan and pour some oil and roast for 5 to 6 minutes. Serve hot with rice.
NB: If you don't like coconut can avoid that, just make with other ingredients. Enjoy cooking.
