Soya Chunks Gravy with Coconut

Soya chunks is an excellent source of protein and has a lot of health benefits too. This gravy is medium spicy so kids also can have this. Soya chunks is tasteless and has absorb any flavour that it is cooked with it. So here is recipe for you all to try.




Ingredients


  • Soya Chunks 1/2 cup
  • Milk 1 tbsp
  • Water 
  • Onion 1 big, chopped
  • Ginger Garlic Paste 1 tsp
  • Coriander Powder 1 tsp
  • Red Chilli Powder 1 tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder 1 tsp
  • Salt

To Grind

  • Coconut 1/4 cup, grated
  • Pepper 1/2 tsp
  • Fennel Seeds 1 tsp
  • Onion 1 medium size, chopped
  • Tomato 2 medium size, chopped

To Temper

  • Cumin Seeds 1/2 tsp
  • Curry Leaves 2 sprigs
  • Oil

Method

Boil water with 1 tbsp of milk in a medium size sauce pan till it bubbles up. Switch off and add the 
soya chunks and let it set aside for few minutes for it to grow in size and soft. Then rinse soya chunks in cold water atleast twice to get rid of the raw smell. Drain water nicely and keep aside.

In a Kadai or pan heat oil add chopped onion and tomato saute till raw smell of tomatoes leave. Then in a mixer grind coconut, pepper, fennel and sauted onion and tomato, grind to a fine paste and keep aside.

In a pressure cooker heat oil - add the items listed under 'to temper'  then add chopped onion and saute for 2 minutes. Add ginger garlic paste and fry till onion becomes transparent. Now add coconut onion and tomato paste and saute for 1 minute. Now add chilli powder, coriander powder and garam masala. Saute for few minutes and add salt. 

Add soya chunks. mix well. Add 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup water according to the consistency. Pressure cook for 1 whistle in medium high flame. Once pressure release, open garnish with coriander leaves and transfer to serving bowl. serve warm with rice or roti. 

NB: If you like drizzle lemon juice while serving. Enjoy cooking..
