Meen Vattichathu / Spicy fish curry

Simple, spicy and tangy fish curry with minimum ingredients. Here is recipe for you all to try.




Ingredients
  • Fish 500gm
  • Gamboge / Kudampuli 2 pieces
  • Shallots / Small Onion 6 nos, sliced
  • Green Chilli 2 nos, slited
  • Garlic 4 cloves, sliced
  • Ginger 1 small piece, chopped
  • Turmeric Powder 1/4 tsp
  • Red Chilli Powder 1 tsp
  • Kashmiri Chilli Powder 1 tsp
  • Mustard Seeds 1/4 tsp
  • Curry Leaves 2 sprigs
  • Salt
  • Oil
Method

Put gamboge/kudampuli in luke warm water . Clean and put slits on the fish, you can slice the fish and use also, I have used whole fish. Marinate fish with 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder, 1/2 tsp of red chilli powder, 1/2 tsp pf kashmiri chilli powder and salt, keep it aside for 15 minutes. 

Take a pan or pot and heat oil and splutter mustard seeds, then add sliced garlic, chopped ginger and slide shallots, saute well till shallots become. Add curry Leaves and stir well. Now add 1/2 tsp of red chilli powder and 1/2 tsp of kashmiri chilli powder and saute well. Now add kudampuli with some water and let it boil. Once bubbles start coming add marinated fish cover and cook for until its cooked and gravy thickens. Serve with warm rice. 

NB: Adjust red chilli powder according to your taste. Enjoy cooking..
