Chocolate Dates Payasam, simple and delicious payasam for this festive season. Its not a traditional payasam but its flavourfull and kids will love this. I have read about chocolate dates payasam in some food group sometime back since then I was planning to make this, now I tried this payasam in my style hopefully everyone will love this. You can make and serve this desert at any occasion. So here is recipe for you all to try. I have made dates payasam earlier please click for the link.

Ingredients
  • Dates 1 cup, remove seeds and cut into small pieces
  • Cocoapowder 1tbsp
  • Milk Chocolate 100gm
  • Full Cream Milk 1 1/2 ltr
  • Sugar 3/4 cup
  • Sabutana / Tapioca Balls 1/2 cup
  • Ghee 3 to 4 tbsp
  • Almond Slices few
  • Cashew nut Few chopped
  • Raisins few
  • Vanila Essence 1/4 tsp
  • Water 1 cup
  • Salt a pinch
Method

Soak sabutana in water for 1 to 2 hours. Soak dates pieces in luke warm water for 30 minutes. Then keep it aside to cool down a bit.

Take a nonstick pan heat on medium flame with 2 tbsp of ghee and add cashew nuts , almond slices and raisins then fry until golden color. Remove from the pan and keep it aside, once its done. Now in the same pan add soaked dates pieces and saute well for few minutes and keep it aside.

Now take a medium size sauce pan on medium flame and add 1 cup water and add soaked sabutana and cook for a while. Once the water reduces half then add 1 ltr of milk and sugar and cook until sabutana is cooked properly. It will take 20 to 30 minutes. Keep stirring in-between. Now add remaining milk and boil on low flame. Add ghee sauted dates and combine well. Add 1 tbsp of cocoa powder and milk chocolate to the payasam mix well. Chocolates will get melted fast and you get nice aroma. Add vanilla essence and put off the flame. Add salt and combine well. Now sprinkle ghee roasted cashew nuts, almond slices and raisins. Serve this on room temperature or cold. Its best to serve little chilled, keep it in the fridge for 1 hour and serve.

NB: Adjust sugar according to your taste. You can buy milk chocolate bar, cooking once for this recipe. I have used cooking chocolate buttons for this recipe. Enjoy cooking..
