#Thari Kachiyathu
Thari Kanji / Thari Kachiyathu / Rava Porridge is one of my favorite Iftar Dish. It is a light sweetened hot drink made from milk with very little semolina and seasoned with nuts and raisins. Traditionally had while breaking the fast in the evening, it is supposed to settle the stomach. Semolina / Reva is to be easily digestible and is given to kids as porridge. Try it once and I am sure you all will like it very much. You can make this during winter, here in South Africa its winter now and we enjoyed this hot sweet porridge. Here is recipe for you all to try.
Ingredients
- Milk 1 glass
- Semolina / Rava2 tbsp
- Sugar 2tbs
- Salt a pinch
- For seasoning:
- Ghee - 1/2 tbsp
- Shallots - 1 thinly sliced
- Cashew nuts 2 made half
- Raisins - 3 nos
Method
Boil milk and add semolina and cook until semolina is cooked. Add sugar and a pinch of salt. Switch off the flame.
In a small pan put ghee and fry cashew nuts and dry grapes in ghee and keep aside.
In the same ghee sauté shallots until golden brown.
Pour golden brown shallots along with ghee and fried cashew-nuts and dry grapes to milk mixture. Traditionally hot Thari Kanji / Thari Kachiyathu / Rava Porridge is served hot. But the dish tastes good if chilled also. Enjoy..
NB: The above measurement is for 1 glass thari kachiyathu / semolina porridge. If you want more sweet add more sugar. If you don't like shallots in it the dish can omit that. I didn't put shallots, but it gives good aroma. The consistency you can adjust adding more milk or water according to your taste. Enjoy cooking..
